DOTS (Dynamic Objective Team Scoring) answers the question a raw total cannot: who is the stronger lifter, the 74 kg lifter totaling 600 kg or the 120 kg lifter totaling 800 kg? The formula divides your total by a polynomial of your bodyweight, producing a single number that is fair to compare across weight classes. It replaced Wilks in many federations from 2019 onward and is the default relative-strength score on most competition results today.
The score scales linearly with your total: add 5% to your total and your DOTS goes up 5%. That makes it a great long-term progress metric while your bodyweight changes - cutting or gaining, your DOTS tells you whether you actually got stronger for your size.
These bands are a rough guide for raw lifters totaling squat, bench, and deadlift. Scores from a single lift or from equipped lifting are not comparable to them:

DOTS is a bodyweight-adjusted score for powerlifting. Your total (or single lift) is multiplied by a coefficient derived from your bodyweight, so lifters in different weight classes can be ranked against each other. It stands for Dynamic Objective Team Scoring and is the most widely used relative-strength formula in powerlifting today.
DOTS = total x 500 / (a x bw^4 + b x bw^3 + c x bw^2 + d x bw + e), where bw is bodyweight in kilograms and the coefficients differ for men and women. This calculator uses the exact official coefficients, converts from lbs automatically, and clamps bodyweight to the valid range of the formula (40-210 kg for men, 40-150 kg for women).
Around 300 is a solid intermediate score, 400 is advanced, and 500+ is elite. Most recreational lifters who train consistently for a few years land between 250 and 350. World-class lifters exceed 600.
Both adjust a total for bodyweight, and for most lifters they produce numbers within a few points of each other. Wilks (1994) was criticized for favoring certain bodyweight ranges as lifters got stronger; DOTS refit the curve on modern raw lifting data and replaced Wilks in most federations. Yes - the formula is linear in the weight lifted, so a bench-only or deadlift-only DOTS is valid for comparing that lift across bodyweights. Just remember single-lift scores are on a different scale than full-total scores, so only compare like with like.
