Like every 5/3/1 template, the Triumvirate is percentage-driven: each main-lift session is three work sets calculated from your Training Max, waved across a 4-week cycle, warm-ups included. The community answer has always been a spreadsheet, and for the main lifts a good sheet computes correctly. But the Triumvirate is half assistance work by design - two exercises a day for 5 sets each - and that half has no percentages to compute, so the sheets simply leave it out. The result is a program where the part that distinguishes the template is the part nothing tracks.
| Requirement | How Hardy handles it |
|---|---|
| Training Max from 1RM | Enter your 1RM per lift and Hardy derives the TM; no 1RM yet? Hardy estimates it from a logged AMRAP set |
| Percentages per set | Every main-lift set in the routine is calculated from your TM for the current week of the cycle |
| AMRAP logging | Log your plus-set reps and Hardy estimates the 1RM from that performance |
| Assistance tracking | All eight assistance exercises are in the routine with their sets and rep targets, and every logged set builds their progression history |
| Cycle increments | TM increases are handled cycle to cycle - no re-entering numbers every four weeks |
| Deload week | Week 4 is built into the routine, main lift only at deload percentages |
| Plate rounding | Weights are rounded to your plates' increments, in kg or lbs, per your settings |
The 4-day Triumvirate routine - press, deadlift, bench and squat days with their exact assistance pairs from the template - is free in Hardy's routine library. Set four Training Maxes once and the app prescribes every session of the cycle; swap any assistance exercise in the editor without touching the 5/3/1 math. For the full method beyond the base template, Wendler's 5/3/1 books are the source.
Not ready for an app? Hardy's 1RM calculator turns any recent rep set into an estimated max - the number you take 90% of for your Training Max, as covered in how to calculate your training max. The plate calculator then tells you which plates to load for any target weight. Both are free in the browser, no account needed.
Yes - the template predates every app and works on paper. What you give up is in-gym logging, AMRAP history with automatic estimated 1RMs, any tracking of the assistance half of the program, hands-off cycle increments, and plate-aware rounding.
Yes - every warm-up and work set for the main lifts is calculated from your Training Max for the current week of the cycle, rounded to your plates' increments in kg or lbs.
Yes. Dips, chin-ups, good mornings, hanging leg raises, dumbbell bench, dumbbell rows, leg press and leg curls are all in the routine with set and rep targets, and each one keeps its own logged history so you can progress it cycle to cycle.
